Most SWOT Analysis that I’ve observed have been applied incompletely. Often, the first step is done – the standard 2×2 matrix of opportunities, threats, strengths, and weaknesses. But, the 2nd part is missed – where those elements are ranked. And, even worse, the third step is missed where internal strengths are mapped to external threats and opportunities, etc.
The 3rd step of the SWOT is critical because it is the step that takes the items in the brainstorming and helps make it actionable and the focus is then on execution and action.
