Bloomberg is ubiquitious in Wall Street and in the finance world. News on finance and data rendered on Bloomberg terminals are part and parcel of the business of Wall Street and literally the finance world.
Bloomberg now aims to do for government what he did for finance with his new venture entitles: Bloomberg Government. That venture aims to aggregate and render government data for a hefty subscription fee.
“So all of that is interesting, but who cares?” you say.
Well, in that article, is a picture of the chairman of Bloomberg Government standing in front of a Kanban board.
Purpose of Lean Kanban Board
The Kanban board above for Bloomberg is a simple visual way to see the flow of work from one step to the next. The process above is for software development, but this approach can be applied to any development process. From my experience, there are 5 major benefits that come from a simple Kanban board for product development:
- A Kanban board allows users to visualize the flow of work
- A Kanban board allows the users to optimize the flow of work
- A Kanban board allows the users to collaborate the flow of work
- A Kanban board encourages discipline and responsiveness
- A Kanban board exposes metrics publicly
It’s great to see a Kanban board in the wild – in the New York Times of all places. This goes to show the principles of Lean Thinking are spreading across industries and functions, displaying its simplicity and effectiveness.

Very awesome to see. They’ve got some pretty big WIP limits.
